I Don't Chase Ideas. I Test Them.

By Nino Mihilli | Entrepreneur, Author, Founder of T47 Group, Creator of Xsatori, and Author of The Variable

People sometimes assume entrepreneurs are constantly chasing the next big idea.

In reality, I've found the opposite to be true.

Ideas are everywhere.

Good ideas are not.

One lesson I've learned over the years is that an idea has very little value by itself.

Execution is what matters.

Testing is what matters.

Learning is what matters.

That's why I don't fall in love with ideas anymore.

I fall in love with the process of testing them.

Most Ideas Sound Great at First

If you've ever had an entrepreneurial conversation, you've probably heard someone say:

"I have a million-dollar idea."

Maybe they do.

But ideas are easy.

Execution is difficult.

The real question isn't:

"Is this a good idea?"

It's:

"Will this idea survive contact with reality?"

Customers answer that question.

The market answers that question.

Time answers that question.

Build Small. Learn Fast.

One habit that's changed the way I build businesses is starting smaller than I used to.

Instead of trying to build everything at once, I ask:

Can I test this?

Can I learn from it?

Can I improve it?

That approach has saved me time, money, and frustration.

It also keeps my ego out of the process.

Because if an idea doesn't work, I haven't failed.

I've learned.

And learning is always an asset.

Xsatori Is Being Built This Way

People see software when they look at Xsatori.

I see thousands of small experiments.

One feature at a time.

One improvement at a time.

One lesson at a time.

Some ideas work better than expected.

Others don't.

That's part of building.

The goal isn't to be right every time.

The goal is to become better with every iteration.

Even The Variable Evolved

When I first imagined The Variable, it wasn't the same book that exists today.

The story changed.

Characters evolved.

Ideas became stronger.

That's the creative process.

You don't discover the best version of something before you begin.

You discover it because you begin.

That lesson applies to writing, business, leadership, and life.

Faith Keeps My Identity Separate From My Ideas

One of the healthiest things my faith has taught me is this:

My worth is not tied to the outcome of my projects.

Some ideas will succeed.

Some won't.

Some books will resonate.

Others may not.

Some businesses will exceed expectations.

Others will teach expensive lessons.

None of those outcomes define who I am.

That perspective creates freedom.

Freedom to experiment.

Freedom to improve.

Freedom to keep building.

Progress Beats Perfection

Perfection sounds admirable.

In reality, it often becomes procrastination.

Waiting.

Tweaking.

Delaying.

Trying to eliminate every risk.

I've learned that progress is almost always the better strategy.

Ship the idea.

Gather feedback.

Improve it.

Repeat.

That's how meaningful things are built.

Final Thoughts

The older I get, the less interested I am in having the perfect idea.

I'm more interested in becoming the kind of person who can build almost any idea well.

That's a skill.

It's a mindset.

And it's one I'm still developing every single day.

Because in the end, great builders aren't defined by one brilliant idea.

They're defined by their willingness to keep learning.

Keep improving.

And keep building.
