One Question to Ask by Nino Mihilli

The Question I Ask Before Starting Anything New
By Nino Mihilli | Entrepreneur, Author, Founder of T47 Group, Creator of Xsatori, and Author of The Variable
I've started enough businesses to know something most people don't.
The hardest part isn't launching.
It isn't raising money.
It isn't building a website.
The hardest part is deciding whether an idea deserves years of your life.
That's a much bigger decision than most people realize.
Because every "yes" is also a hundred "no's."
Every new project requires time.
Energy.
Focus.
Sacrifice.
You don't just invest money.
You invest a piece of your life.
I Used to Ask the Wrong Question
Years ago, when I had a new idea, my first thought was usually:
"Can this make money?"
There's nothing wrong with asking that.
Businesses need to be profitable.
But I've learned it's not the first question.
Now I ask something different.
"Does this solve a real problem?"
If the answer is no...
I move on.
If the answer is yes...
Now I get interested.
Because problems are opportunities waiting for someone willing to solve them.
Every Venture Started With One Problem
Flat Staffing wasn't created because I wanted another company.
It started because businesses needed dependable staffing partners.
T47 Group wasn't created because I wanted a holding company.
It was created because I wanted a place where different ideas could grow together.
Xsatori exists because I kept asking a question:
Can AI help people understand reality before everyone else does?
Different industries.
Different products.
The same philosophy.
Start with a real problem.
Writing The Variable
Even my novel started that way.
The problem wasn't business.
It was curiosity.
I wanted to explore what happens when people are pushed beyond their limits.
How does pressure change us?
What happens when fear collides with purpose?
Those questions eventually became The Variable.
The book wasn't built around a plot.
It was built around a question.
I think that's why writing it became one of the most rewarding projects I've ever completed.
Faith Shapes My Decisions
One thing I've learned is that not every opportunity is meant for me.
Just because I can build something doesn't mean I should.
Faith helps me slow down.
Pray.
Reflect.
Ask whether an opportunity aligns with my values and purpose.
The Bible says:
"Commit your work to the Lord, and your plans will be established." — Proverbs 16:3
I've found that when purpose comes first, decisions become much clearer.
The Best Builders Stay Patient
The world celebrates speed.
Launch quickly.
Scale quickly.
Move quickly.
Sometimes that's necessary.
But I've found that taking an extra day to ask the right questions often saves months—or years—of solving the wrong problems.
Patience isn't laziness.
It's wisdom.
Final Thoughts
These days, every new idea has to answer one question before I give it my time.
Does this genuinely make someone's life better?
If the answer is yes...
It's worth exploring.
If the answer is no...
No amount of potential profit is enough.
Because life is too short to spend years building something that doesn't matter.
That's become my filter.
And honestly, it's one of the best business decisions I've ever made.
