Humility Isn't Weakness. It's What Keeps You Growing.

Why the Best Leaders Stay Teachable

There's a moment that comes with a little success.

The business grows. People start asking for your opinion. You get invited to speak, to advise, to sit on boards.

And slowly, without noticing, you can start believing you have all the answers.

I've felt that pull. I think every leader does.

Humility is what keeps that pull from turning into a problem.

Humility Is Not Thinking Less of Yourself

Some people think humility means putting yourself down or pretending you're not good at what you do.

That's not it.

Humility is being honest about what you know and what you don't.

It's being confident enough to say, "I was wrong," and secure enough to say, "I need help."

It's not about thinking less of yourself. It's about thinking of yourself less.

The Front Line Knows Things You Don't

Some of the best ideas I've ever heard didn't come from a boardroom.

They came from the people doing the work.

At Flat Staffing, our team members are on job sites every day. They see what's working, what's slowing things down and what clients actually need.

If I only listened to people with titles, I would miss most of what's really going on.

Humility means walking the floor, asking questions and actually listening to the answers.

Pride Is Expensive

Pride has cost me more than once.

It's cost me time when I held onto a bad decision because I didn't want to admit it was wrong.

It's cost me money when I didn't ask for advice because I thought I could figure it out alone.

And it's cost relationships when I cared more about being right than being fair.

Humility is cheaper. It just requires you to set your ego aside long enough to learn.

Give the Credit Away

When something goes well, it's tempting to take the credit.

But almost nothing great is built by one person.

Behind every win is a team that showed up, a client who trusted you, a mentor who gave advice and a family who supported you through the long days.

Leaders who give the credit away build teams that want to keep winning with them.

Leaders who keep it all for themselves usually end up winning alone, if they win at all.

Humility and Faith

My faith keeps me grounded here.

James 4:10 says, "Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up."

That verse reminds me that I don't have to lift myself up. My job is to do the work, serve people well and stay faithful. The rest isn't mine to force.

Every opportunity I've had, every business I've built and every person who has believed in me is a gift. Remembering that makes it hard to stay proud for long.

What Humility Looks Like Day to Day

For me, it looks like simple habits:

Asking for feedback, and not getting defensive when I hear it.

Admitting mistakes quickly.

Learning from people younger than me and newer than me.

Thanking the people who make the work possible.

Remembering where I started.

Final Thought

Success can make you comfortable. Humility keeps you hungry and teachable.

Stay curious. Listen more than you talk. Give the credit away.

The higher you go, the more humility matters.
