The Best Investment I've Ever Made Was in Myself

By Nino Mihilli | Entrepreneur, Author, Founder of T47 Group, Creator of Xsatori, and Author of The Variable

People often ask entrepreneurs where they should invest.

Stocks.

Real estate.

Businesses.

Artificial intelligence.

Technology.

Those are all worthwhile conversations.

But if I had to choose one investment that's produced the greatest return over my lifetime, the answer is simple.

Investing in myself.

Not because I think I'm the most important asset.

Because every other investment depends on the person making the decisions.

Knowledge Compounds

One lesson I've learned is that knowledge behaves differently than money.

When you spend money, you have less of it.

When you invest in learning, you usually gain something that can't be taken away.

Every book I've read...

Every mentor I've learned from...

Every difficult conversation...

Every mistake...

Every failure...

Every success...

They've all become part of how I make decisions today.

The return isn't immediate.

But it compounds over a lifetime.

Curiosity Opened More Doors Than Confidence

Looking back, I don't think confidence was my greatest strength.

Curiosity was.

Curiosity pushed me to ask questions.

To explore industries I knew nothing about.

To learn about technology.

To study artificial intelligence.

To write a novel.

To build companies that didn't exist a few years earlier.

The more I learned, the more opportunities I began to see.

Not because the world changed.

Because I changed.

Reading Changed the Way I Think

I've always believed books are conversations with people you'll probably never meet.

A great author can compress decades of experience into a few hundred pages.

That's incredible when you think about it.

Reading has challenged my assumptions.

Introduced me to new ideas.

Made me reconsider old ones.

And perhaps most importantly, it reminded me how much I still have to learn.

That realization keeps me humble.

Writing The Variable

Writing The Variable gave me a completely different appreciation for authors.

It's one thing to enjoy a book.

It's another to spend months—or years—trying to write one that readers won't want to put down.

The process stretched me creatively.

It taught me patience.

It reminded me that creating something meaningful rarely happens quickly.

And it gave me an even deeper respect for lifelong learning.

Because every chapter required me to become a better writer than I had been the day before.

Faith Encourages Growth

One thing I appreciate about Christianity is that it's a lifelong journey of transformation.

We're not called to stop growing.

We're called to continue becoming.

To seek wisdom.

To seek understanding.

To seek truth.

The Bible says:

"Let the wise listen and add to their learning..." — Proverbs 1:5

I love that verse because it reminds me that wisdom isn't a destination.

It's a lifelong pursuit.

The Return on Investment

The interesting thing about personal growth is that it affects everything else.

Become a better communicator...

You become a better leader.

Become a better listener...

You build stronger relationships.

Become a better learner...

You make better decisions.

Improve yourself...

And every area of your life benefits.

That's why I still spend time learning.

Not because I have all the answers.

Because I know I don't.

Final Thoughts

If someone asked me where to invest today, I'd still give the same answer.

Invest in your character.

Invest in your faith.

Invest in your relationships.

Invest in your knowledge.

Invest in your health.

Invest in becoming the kind of person who can handle greater responsibility.

Because markets will rise and fall.

Technology will evolve.

Industries will change.

But the person you become will influence every opportunity that follows.

And that's an investment that pays dividends for the rest of your life.
