The Best Business Advice I Never Took

By Nino Mihilli | Entrepreneur, Author, Founder of T47 Group, and Creator of Xsatori

Early in my entrepreneurial journey, I received a lot of advice.

Some of it was excellent.

Some of it was terrible.

And some of it came from people who had never built anything themselves.

One lesson I've learned is that advice should always be filtered through experience.

Just because someone has an opinion doesn't mean they have the perspective to back it up.

Everyone Has an Opinion

If you decide to start a business, write a book, launch a product, or pursue an idea, you'll quickly discover something.

Everyone has advice.

"You should do this."

"You shouldn't do that."

"That will never work."

"Someone already tried it."

"You're too early."

"You're too late."

If I had listened to every opinion, I probably wouldn't have started half the projects I've worked on.

Not because the advice was malicious.

Because people naturally see the world through the limits of their own experiences.

Experience Is a Better Teacher

Over the years, I've built businesses in different industries.

I've launched new ideas.

I've made mistakes.

I've had projects succeed.

I've had projects fail.

Those experiences taught me something no book ever could.

The marketplace is the ultimate teacher.

Customers tell you what's valuable.

Reality tells you what's broken.

Experience tells you what needs to improve.

You simply can't replace that feedback.

Why I'm Still Willing to Take Chances

Some people think entrepreneurs enjoy risk.

I don't.

I enjoy possibility.

There's a difference.

I'm willing to take calculated risks because I know growth rarely happens inside complete certainty.

When I decided to write The Variable, I had never published a novel before.

When I started building Xsatori, there wasn't a blueprint sitting on my desk.

Every worthwhile project begins with uncertainty.

That's part of the process.

Faith Helps Quiet the Noise

One of the greatest gifts my faith has given me is perspective.

Not every opinion deserves equal weight.

Not every criticism requires a response.

Not every doubt deserves your attention.

The Bible says:

"Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding." — Proverbs 3:5

That verse reminds me that wisdom comes from seeking God first—not chasing everyone's approval.

Build First. Explain Later.

I've noticed something about successful builders.

They spend more time creating than explaining.

They let the work speak.

Instead of debating every idea, they test it.

Instead of seeking permission, they build.

Instead of waiting for unanimous support, they take the next step.

That's a mindset I've tried to embrace throughout my career.

Final Thoughts

If you're working on something meaningful, expect opinions.

Some will help you.

Some will distract you.

Learn to recognize the difference.

Listen to people who have walked the path.

Stay teachable.

Stay humble.

But don't let fear disguised as advice stop you from building something that matters.

Sometimes the best decision you'll ever make is believing in your vision before anyone else does.
