I've Learned to Dream About Tomorrow Without Missing Today
I've always been a builder.
My mind naturally drifts toward what's next.
The next company.
The next book.
The next trip.
The next problem to solve.
The next opportunity to pursue.
There's something exciting about imagining what could be.
I don't think that part of me will ever disappear.
And honestly, I hope it doesn't.
Dreaming is one of the ways God stretches our vision beyond what we can currently see.
But over the years, I've also learned that dreaming comes with a danger.
If we're not careful, we can become so focused on tomorrow that we forget to live today.
Builders Are Wired This Way
I've met a lot of entrepreneurs over the years.
Most of us have something in common.
Even after reaching one goal, we're already thinking about the next one.
It's part of what makes entrepreneurs entrepreneurs.
We're constantly asking,
"What if?"
"How could this be better?"
"What's possible?"
That mindset creates innovation.
It also creates restlessness if we're not careful.
Success Keeps Moving the Finish Line
Early in my career, I believed there would eventually be a moment when I'd finally feel like I had "made it."
Then I'd relax.
Slow down.
Enjoy the view.
That moment never arrived.
Every achievement simply introduced a new challenge.
A bigger responsibility.
A larger vision.
A fresh mountain to climb.
Eventually I realized something important.
If I kept waiting to enjoy life until after the next milestone, I'd spend my entire life waiting.
The Present Is a Gift
That's one reason I try to be intentional about appreciating ordinary moments.
A meaningful conversation.
Laughing with family.
An encouraging message from a friend.
Watching a project slowly come together.
A quiet evening with a bottle of water, reflecting on the day and thanking God for His faithfulness.
Those moments don't interrupt life.
They are life.
Faith Changes My Perspective
Jesus spoke often about tomorrow.
But He also reminded us not to worry about it.
In Matthew 6:34, He says:
"Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself."
I've come to appreciate the wisdom in that verse.
Planning is important.
Vision matters.
But peace is found in today's obedience, not tomorrow's certainty.
Dream Big. Live Fully.
I've stopped believing those two ideas compete with each other.
You can build ambitious businesses and still make time for your family.
You can chase meaningful goals and still notice the beauty of an ordinary Thursday.
You can think years ahead without overlooking the person sitting across the table today.
In fact, I think the best leaders learn to do both.
Final Thoughts
I still have more ideas than I have time.
That's probably never going to change.
There are businesses I'd love to build.
Places I'd love to visit.
Books I'd love to write.
Problems I'd love to solve.
But if I've learned anything, it's this:
Life isn't something that starts after the next achievement.
It's already happening.
Right now.
In today's conversations.
Today's responsibilities.
Today's opportunities to love people well.
So I'll keep dreaming about tomorrow.
But I don't want those dreams to keep me from seeing the gifts God has already placed in today.
Because one day, today's ordinary moments will become the memories I treasure most.
