Stay Curious: The One Habit That Changed My Life

By Nino Mihilli | Entrepreneur, Author, Founder of T47 Group, Creator of Xsatori, and Author of The Variable

If someone asked me what habit has had the biggest impact on my life, they might expect me to say discipline.

Or faith.

Or hard work.

Those have all been incredibly important.

But the habit that quietly shaped almost everything I've built is something much simpler.

Curiosity.

I've never been satisfied with accepting, "That's just how it's done."

I've always wanted to know why.

Why does this process exist?

Why is this industry still operating this way?

Why hasn't someone built a better solution?

Why do people make the decisions they do?

Looking back, those questions have shaped almost every chapter of my life.

Every Business Started With a Question

People often think businesses begin with an idea.

I don't think that's true.

I think businesses begin with a question.

Flat Staffing began with a question:

Can staffing be done with greater consistency, stronger relationships, and better service?

T47 Group began with another question:

How can different businesses work together to create something larger than themselves?

Xsatori began with a question that still drives me today:

Can artificial intelligence help us understand reality before everyone else does?

Every worthwhile project in my life started because I was curious enough to ask a better question.

Books Begin the Same Way

When I wrote The Variable, the story didn't begin with characters.

It began with curiosity.

I kept wondering:

What happens when ordinary people are forced into extraordinary situations?

That single question stayed with me for years.

Eventually it became a novel.

That's the power of curiosity.

One good question can become an entire body of work.

The Best Conversations Start With Listening

Curiosity has also changed the way I lead.

When I was younger, I thought leadership meant having answers.

Today, I think leadership starts with asking better questions.

Some of the most valuable conversations I've ever had began with three simple words:

"Help me understand."

People want to be heard.

Customers.

Employees.

Friends.

Family.

When we become genuinely curious about other people, we stop listening just to respond.

We start listening to learn.

That changes everything.

Faith Encourages Wonder

One of the things I appreciate most about my faith is that it has never discouraged curiosity.

In fact, the more I study Scripture, the more questions I ask.

Questions about purpose.

Stewardship.

Wisdom.

Service.

Creation.

Faith has taught me that asking honest questions isn't a weakness.

It's often the beginning of deeper understanding.

The Bible says:

"If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God..." — James 1:5

That verse reminds me that growth begins by admitting we don't know everything.

Curiosity Is Fuel for Innovation

Artificial intelligence fascinates me because it expands what's possible.

Technology doesn't replace curiosity.

It rewards it.

The people who will thrive in the next decade won't simply be the people who know the most.

They'll be the people who keep learning.

Who stay adaptable.

Who continue asking better questions.

Knowledge changes.

Curiosity keeps finding new knowledge.

Final Thoughts

If I could pass one habit on to my children, it wouldn't simply be ambition.

It would be curiosity.

Stay curious about people.

Stay curious about ideas.

Stay curious about faith.

Stay curious about technology.

Stay curious about the world God created.

Because curiosity has a remarkable way of opening doors you never even knew existed.

And looking back on my own journey, I can honestly say that almost every meaningful opportunity in my life started with one simple question.

Why?
