The People Who Changed My Life Never Knew They Did

Have you ever stopped to think about the people who shaped your life?

Not the celebrities.

Not the famous leaders.

Not the people everyone talks about.

I'm talking about the ordinary people.

The teacher who believed in you.

The coach who pushed you.

The mentor who gave you advice.

The friend who showed up when you needed it most.

The family member who sacrificed so you could have opportunities they never had.

The older I get, the more I realize that many of the people who had the greatest impact on my life probably have no idea they did.

Influence Is Often Invisible

We tend to think influence comes from large audiences.

Big platforms.

Massive followings.

Public recognition.

But real influence is often much quieter.

It's a conversation.

An example.

An act of kindness.

A moment of encouragement.

A lesson shared at exactly the right time.

Many of the beliefs we carry today were shaped by people who may never know the impact they had.

And that's a powerful thought.

Leadership Is More Than a Title

One lesson entrepreneurship taught me is that leadership happens everywhere.

Not just in boardrooms.

Not just in business.

Leadership happens in homes.

Churches.

Schools.

Sports fields.

Communities.

Every day, people influence others through their actions.

The question isn't whether we're influencing people.

The question is how.

Because someone is always watching.

Learning.

Observing.

Being impacted by our example.

Faith and Example

The Bible says:

"Let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven." — Matthew 5:16

I've always appreciated that verse because it reminds me that influence is not always about words.

Sometimes it's about example.

How we treat people.

How we respond to adversity.

How we handle success.

How we live our faith.

Those things often speak louder than anything we could ever say.

The Inspiration Behind The Variable

One thing I explored while writing The Variable was how individual decisions ripple outward and affect other people.

A choice made by one person can influence the lives of many others.

The same is true in real life.

We rarely see the full impact of our actions.

We rarely know how a conversation, a lesson, or an act of encouragement may shape someone's future.

But influence works that way.

It spreads.

It compounds.

It continues long after the moment itself has passed.

And you may never know the full impact you had.

But that doesn't make it any less real.

As I reflect on my own journey, I'm grateful for the people who influenced me.

The people who encouraged me.

The people who challenged me.

The people who believed in me.

Many of them probably don't know the impact they had.

But I do.

And that reminds me to be intentional about the impact I have on others.
